Art Group Day 12- Paintings Inspired By Gauguin

Today was the last day of art group for the summer.  We will have a couple of weeks off and then it is back to preschool.  We started with Van Gogh discussed the post impressionist and the idea of painting what color you "feel" something should be rather than the exact color you see.  The kids were supposed to try and express their feelings with the colors.  Then we look at some work by Gauguin and talked about the beautiful skin tones of his Tahitian models.  We had a whole paint set of different skin tones for them to use.

The kids were provided with Tempera paints, large cutout shapes or butterflies, fish, or people and encouraged to use big brush strokes, plenty of paint and bright colors.

Some kids used some printing ideas from the last few weeks with cups, hand prints and leaves.
 Others splattered their papers.
Red Fish painted her person with several different skin tones and then painted the head with bright colors to "show his dancing thoughts."  I loved it.
I think the kids were inspired by the colors in Gauguin's paintings.
Love this butterfly- you can see she put a lot of work into it.  She was very carefully mixing her colors.  I only provide the primary colors and white, plus the skin-tones today.
