Capitol Reef by Two Fish

This past weekend I went to Capitol Reef National Park with my brothersW and V and their sons.  On the way down we stopped at an uncle's house in Ephraim, Utah.  Once we got to the park we went for a hike, near the visitors center, up to Cassidy Arch and then continued on Frying Pan Trail and came down Cohab  Canyon.  This was about a 5 mile hike total but it somewhat strenuous because of the elevation gain in the beginning.

After the hike we went to Slacker's Burger Joint in Torrey.  Slackers makes some good burgers and shakes and I would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Capitol Reef.  After that we camped in the Cedar Mesa campground which was 1+hour drive southwest of the visitors center, the last 9 miles was dirt road which is currently under construction.

On Saturday, we woke up packed up camp and went on an hike up Burros Wash.  The first 2 miles of the hike were outside that park and after a while I was questioning why we picked the hike in the first place.  Once we entered the park the hike got significantly better.  About a quarter to half mile into the park we started getting into slot canyons.  Most of them were only a couple hundred feet long but they got pretty tight(less than shoulder width).  In between the slot canyons we had nice views of other canyons in the park. About 2 miles after entering the park we couldn't go any farther so we turned around and went back.

On the way out of the park we stopped at the some petroglyphs and hit Slackers for some shakes.  On the way back we stopped at another uncles house in Koosharem, UT.  Overall it was a pretty good weekend.  Capitol Reef is pretty similar to some of the other parks in central/southern Utah but it is considerably less crowded than Arches and Zions.

All of these pictures are from my Galaxy Nexus.  They are okay quality except some where the sunlight ruined them a little bit.
