What We Are Reading To Our Kids

I blog frequently about what I'm reading but I rarely mention what my kids like to have read to them.  We read a lot.  Both Two Fish and I read to them almost every single night and some during the day.  Here is a list of sixty of their favorites.  The stars indicate books that have been read at least 6 billion times and they have been obsessed with at least once if not for several phases. Suggestions for great books are always appreciated!  We have a ton of board books and really little kid books so I want to start getting more books that are a little bit older for Red Fish.

I don't see any by Mo Willems. I think he wrote Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus which is hilarious. He also writes the Piggie and Elephant books which we really enjoy--even my older kids get a kick out of them. I don't mind reading them over and over. We have "There's a Bird on Your Head" and one about when Elephant thinks she can Fly and one where they go to a party,... My kids also love "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" "If you give a Pig a Pancake" "....Moose a Muffin" Those are some of Nathan's favorites. We also have a book about Olivia the pig that's pretty cute. Also: Snowmen at Night, Sammy the Seal, Curious George, Pippi Longstocking,.....

We read much at our house too. We have many books--you are welcome to borrow them!

Love this list! I'll have to look around for our favorite titles and add our recommendations. Land Of Nod has a great selection of kids books. Just go to their site and then open up your local library catalog online in another browser window and put them all on hold. Try them out, then buy your favorites.

Three of my old favorites for slightly bigger kids are "Danny and the Dinosaur," "Zach's Alligator," and "The Fire Cat." They were out of print until recently when Barnes and Noble did a series with a bunch of the retro books. I also love any ABC books, we've got a cool pirate one, as well as the classic Dr. Suess.

Hey, I didn't see "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day!" That was always one of my favorites growing up and it still is!

We love books by Elsa Beskow. Some of them are so-so, but the really goods ones are Pelle's New Suit, Ollie's Ski Trip, and The Sun Egg. The illustrations are gorgeous!

We love A Mother for Choco (adoption book). Grandfather Twilight by Barbara Berger. Hush! by Minfong Ho. And anything by Jan Brett.
