Farm Country

Today started out as a bad day. Everything seemed to be working against me including an extra tired baby and mischievous dog. (The dog bit holes in my favorite sweater while I was in the shower.) Then I decided to take Red Fish to meet Sas and Little E at a local farm. It turned the whole day around. The girls were darling and they absolutely adored the farm. They loved all the animals and we made the rounds about three times. The girls were running up and down the path and talking to all of the animals. They were racing each other and teasing the ducks. We spent a good hour and a half looking at the animals and riding ponies. This may be the best $3 I ever spent. We will definitely be going back soon. The girls were obsessed with the goats. The goats were really friendly and spent a lot of time close to the fence talking to the girls. Red Fish kept squealing at them. We had to go back to the goats at least four times.
Sas and Little E on their pony ride. Little E was scared of the horse but once she saw Red Fish on her horse she wasn't going to be outdone.
Red Fish on her pony ride. She loved it. She was nervous at first but then she started giggling and waving at everyone.
You'll notice I don't have a single picture showing Red Fish's face. She was much too busy to have her picture taken.
Tiny munchkins and giant horses.

A Messy Business

I've come to the conclusion that my fear of making a bigger mess that necessary has been holding Red Fish back from really using silverware well. This week I have thrown myself headfirst into the mess and invited her to self feed EVERYTHING without any assistance at all. So we've tried giving her a spoon and a bowl of oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, cooked spinach, cooked veggies, and everything I can think of. So far- it isn't going well. Red Fish is more interested in painting herself in goo or squishing the food in her hands. I've decided to just concentrate on the fact that at least I am fostering her creativity by letting her experiment. The mess hasn't actually been all that bad but the dog is getting fatter.

Happy Valentine's Day

Tomorrow (the 15th) will be the six year anniversary of when Two Fish proposed to me. We have plans on Monday but I made a fondue table to surprise Two Fish when he got home from work yesterday. (I even baked him some treats- shocking I know.) We made fondue on our first valentines day after we were married. It turned out much better this time. All of the recipes always call for too much mustard.
Valentine's treats for everyone!

Little Smartie Pants

Little smartie pants found a way around her sippy cup. She stole my glass and filled it up herself. I swear I do put clothes on her but she has been taking them off as fast as I can put them on! I love that she is only wearing one sock. I guess it's a fashion statement.
This one is just cute.

15 Months

We had Red Fish's 15 month checkup yesterday. I always hate the shots because they make her sick for a couple days. Otherwise the checkup was great. Here are some stats-

23 lbs. 50th percentile- she is definitely starting to thin out now that she is running around. She still has the cute little belly though.
29 an1/4 inches tall- 20th percentile. This surprised me because I'm so used to her being 70th or 80th percentile. Maybe she isn't going to be quite as tall as I thought.
12 teeth- She has four new molars that have just recently arrived.
Using her own spoon- it's a messy job but somebody has got to do it.
Ransacking everything in sight- this little girl can undo the best of baby proofing. She is a climber, which terrifies me. She has really dexterous fingers and can open anything. She is SO CURIOUS and I can't keep her out of anything!
Talking- today she said: "Tractor" and "Nose" for the first time. Random words but it's still exciting every time she picks up a new one.
Playing- She wants to play "ring around the rosies" at least 30 times a day. She loves it but she doesn't want to fall down at the end. She also loves "patty cake" and the "itsy bitsy spider."
Reading- She loves her books more than anything in the world. She wants to look at them all day long and insists on sleeping with at least one. She is always trying to look through my big art books too. She loves to look at pictures, on my computer, in frames, in albums, or in books.

It’s fun to watch Red Fish growing and changing. Every day is something new. She is mischievous and full of energy. She definitely keeps me on my toes. It’s been snowing a lot around here and we are really starting to look forward to spring so we can get out of the house more. Red Fish and our dog Blue Fish have become especially good buddies lately. Red Fish just learned how to bounce a tennis ball across the floor so that he chases it and she thinks it is HILARIOUS when he catches it. The two of them chase each other around and she climbs all over him. It’s fun to watch them together.

Today Was All About...

The "Hungry Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. We read it at least 50 times and Red Fish spent a good half hour reading it to herself.

Just Random

Red Fish wearing a dress my Mom made for my first birthday.

Red Fish has been up to so many cute things lately. I love it when she takes me by the hand and leads me someplace she wants to go or pats a chair until I sit in it just where she wants. She races around the house at top speed one arm always swinging hard. She is starting to talk more and she sings in the cutest little voice. The cutest thing she does now is hold her hands out to ask a question. Her hands pointed out means why? or where is it? or who is it? or what? It's so cute!

Red Fish has a new favorite book that she got for Christmas. "I See A Monster." She loves it even more than her monkey book. It is already sticky and creased from her constant love. She has everyone she spends time with read it to her. She loves to feel the pages and flip them open to discover where the monster is hiding. The mirror in the back is covered in kiss marks. This book is the only way we make it through church some weeks.

A Trip To The Vet And Other Such Nonsense

Today I had to take Blue Fish for a quick stop at the vet. It should have been a five minute visit. A little hello how are you- shoot some medicine up his nose and we are on our way. That isn't exactly how things turned out. Blue Fish (who is known for being an enormous baby) made me lift him out of the car and drag him into the waiting room where he proceeded to wedge himself under a chair. Then a woman with three dogs came in and Blue Fish wouldn't stop barking at them from under the chair and Red Fish was trying desperately to make her way over to the new dogs so she could kiss them. Sorry baby, we don't kiss dogs we don't know. Then when the techs came for Blue Fish he bellyached like you wouldn't believe. It took two people to hold him down while they tried to put the drops in his nose. He screamed and cried the whole time. Red Fish of course thought they were hurting her poor puppy so she started to scream her ultra sonic scream and thrash wildly at the techs trying to hit them. (Hitting is a new thing she picked up in nursery class.) I kept having the urge to laugh because the whole thing was so ridiculous but I managed to hold it in. The more upset Red Fish got the more upset Blue Fish got. We were quite the spectacle. This whole debacle took a good 45 minutes instead of the 5 it should have taken. I guess at least Red Fish and Blue Fish love each other and are willing to stick up for each other. I just prefer for tantrums to come one at a time instead of in tandem. I was so worn out by the time we left the vet I wanted a nap! These are the things you just have to laugh about because we must have looked ridiculous!
